Port Marlborough Kororā

Threatened species monitoring has been undertaken by WMIL in Picton as part of the Picton Ferry Port Development project, notably for kororā/little penguins.

Key species of focus are kororā/little penguins, tōrea pango/variable oystercather, and taranui/Caspian tern.

WMIL work with Port Marlborough, KiwiRail, the Department of Conservation (DOC), Te Ātiawa, and the Kaipūpū Sanctuary to undertake this critical piece of bird monitoring. This also includes working with DabChick NZ and/or Seadpod Solutions to undertake conservation dog surveys around the Port to help with detection of kororā.
